Hon Chris Finlayson
Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage
Message from The Minister of Arts, Culture & Heritage
As Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage I am glad to support the New Zealand Fringe Festival 2010. Fringe celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year, meaning that for the last two decades it has played an important role in the development of New Zealand's arts and culture sector.
It provides a great service to the arts community in fostering creative talent. This government firmly believes that the arts are an intrinsic good in their own right, and so contribute to the wellbeing of society, and the population as a whole. Everyone who has taken part in the festival in the past and also this year should feel proud of their contribution.
I wish the artists and those involved all the very best for this year's festival and for the future.
Mayor Kerry Prendergast
Wellington Mayor
Message from The Mayor
2010 is a big year for the arts in Wellington City – but especially for the New Zealand Fringe Festival, which is celebrating 20 years of diverse, passionate, cutting–edge and original arts.
As mayor of Wellington, I lead a council that takes an active role in fostering a vibrant arts community, and Fringe embodies that vibrancy.
To all the participants, supporters, sponsors and the thousands of people involved in Fringe 2010, I congratulate you and thank you for your fantastic achievement in helping keep the heart of the creative Capital beating so strongly. And, of course, a big happy birthday to you all, and to all those who have participated over the past 20 years. Long may Fringe continue.
